About Officials Against Cancer
Officials Against Cancer began as a loosely organized group of football and basketball officials who came together in 2007 to put together a fund raising event in to help offset the medical expenses of Perry Sharp who was fighting leukemia at the time. The first two annual golf tournaments were held in the spring of 2007 and 2008 at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Junction City, KS. The proceeds from those tournaments were used to help cover the cost of Perry Sharp’s medical expenses.
In the fall of 2007 the officiating community again received the news of another of their family, Meredith Grusing, who had been stricken with cancer. The third annual golf tournament was held in the spring of 2008 at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, KS and the proceeds from this tournament was used to help cover the cost of Meredith Grusing’s medical expenses. You can read more about Perry and Meredith

The fourth annual tournament was held in the spring of 2010 at Colbert Hills golf course in Manhattan, KS. The proceeds of this tournament were used to establish a 501(c)3 non-profit organization designed to administer the annual golf tournament and use those proceeds to establish a series of scholarships to memorialize both Perry and Meredith. The first of these scholarships was awarded at the fifth annual golf tournament held May 14, 2011 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, KS. More information on these scholarships can be found
